Web Design & Premier League Football: Why Man City’s new site is leading the pack

Web Design & Premier League Football: Why Man Citys new site is leading the packThe English Premier League is big money. EPL clubs are as much businesses as they are generational sporting institutions, a point proven when cumulative wage bills total £1.2bn, revenues top £2bn, and an exclusive broadcasting deal with BSkyB is worth a staggering £1.7bn. £100m is paid to each club per season from TV revenues alone, and newly promoted clubs receive a promotional bonus of £60m for reaching the top flight. And that’s just the league – domestic trophies like the Carling Cup and FA cup generate even more revenue through sponsorships and advertising, as does Europe’s Holy Grail – the Champion’s League final. Winning this elusive cup equates to a further €110 million in TV rights, sponsorship, and prize money for the winner. (more…)

25 of the best SweetCron-powered Lifestreams

25 of the best SweetCron powered LifestreamsLifestreaming. It can be defined as ‘an automated, effective way to centralize one’s various web activities into a single, unified website or stream’ and it can take various forms. Some people use services like FriendFeed or Tumblr, whilst others opt to make their own. Whichever way you choose to aggregate your activities, the fact remains that a platform is becoming very necessary to pull them all together.

25 Great Marketing-Oriented Web Designs

TacticaAlthough website design is (in my opinion) one of the most hotly-contested environments on the web right now, most of the beautiful websites you see on various CSS galleries are single-service, offering either web design or web design/development by use of a graphical portfolio. Here I’ve rounded up the other folk – the SMBs or one-man teams offering multiple services centered around web marketing, including such ninja-like disciplines as PPC, SEO, email marketing, and of course effective web design.

So here are the top 25 websites that combine beautiful design with various web marketing services (not just web design).

The Reverse Tipping Point: Say goodbye, IE6

Stop IE6!I really identify with Gladwell’s ‘The Tipping Point’. With web tools like Twitter available to all, positive momentum can grow within hours, not days or weeks, potentially creating a success overnight.

So the same can be said about negative momentum – where a community backlash can reach a tipping point and something starts to happen. I’m hoping that by intentionally publishing this article alongside a recent post by Elliot Jay Stocks, a new script by Chris Coyier, a dedicated upgrade campaign, and a new browser from Google (to name but a few), we’ll all be riding the crest of a large wave that sees Microsoft’s bastard child IE6 finally come crashing to a halt.

Site Reboot!

CarbonGraffiti has had a facelift!

Why? Because having an all-HTML site starts to become a burden when you want to make quick updates, and especially when those updates are of the blog nature. This new site is built on the now famous Wordpress.org platform, meaning I can make updates quickly and from any browser. I think I’m the definition of Wordpress’ (very successful) adoption strategy – want to blog, start on Wordpress.com, buy custom CSS (for $15), demand more freedom, consider Wordpress.org, tinker with Wordpress.org, pay for domain transfer ($10), use Wordpress.org, love Wordpress.org.

So, as for the site – new look, new feel. I love the aurora effect, too bad considering it’s just got some attention, but I assure all of you that this site design was purely a coincidence!

Hope you like it, if yes (or no), let me know!

Dental Tourism to China – Get your teeth fixed on a vacation of a lifetime

I’ve just finished another client’s website – http://www.incidentaltourist.com – and I expect good things from it. The interesting part about the website is the content itself; Dental Tourism is an interesting industry, but Dental Tourism to China is pretty bold and new. My client has already had success with Canadian InciDental tourists, and hopes for more from all over North America.
