[...] Add a ‘subscribe now‘ field to your website along with a sample of your newsletter. Take the time to make your newsletter design, content and angle unique enough to entice new subscribers. The communication channel you open with new or potential customers is hugely important, and by nurturing this relationship properly using email marketing, you can drive huge revenue with very little upfront costs (remember, an email campaign costs just pennies to send). Once you’re using email marketing, make sure you’re telling your customers you love them. [...]

I have no idea about any of this, I'm a consumer of emails rather than a producer.

But I must say I'm mostly drawn to 'nice' companies, e.g Innocent who carry their lovely Marcoms style through to their weekly emails, with lots of amusing links on a Wednesday afternoon, which is always good. It's fun, they keep it fun. There is no sell. And I still go and buy their product (in the real world admittedly, buying smoothies online is not going to happen).

What I DON'T like is a long story about something interesting but with the same old, 'for more of this why not purchase our xx service, level 1 costs only $xx' at the bottom. The content is great but the repetitive footer really grates.

My Fruit and Veg deliver company also do very well with reminding me to add stuff to my basket and, if done right, weekly updates are really great to receive.

My favourite is the Getting Things Done 'Week Review Reminder'. Not only will David Allen give you a lovely quote and bit of encouragement but I can choose what day I receive it... this is great as it feels like an alarm that I've chosen.

Just a few of my thoughts... Why didn't I get a mail saying you'd updated your blog?
